NEW CASTLE, Del. (AP) - Delaware State Police say a woman was killed when the car she was driving collided with a truck and hit two signs and a streetlight pole.

It happened about 7 a.m. Tuesday on Christiana Road and Airport Road in New Castle. Troopers say 29-year-old Joann M. Hess of Smyrna was turning left from Christiana Road when she drove into the path of a truck.

Police say the truck, driven by 26-year-old John C. Rowell III of Wilmington, hit Hess’ car.

Authorities say Hess’ car hit a sign, traveled into a gas station parking lot, hit another sign and a streetlight pole.

Troopers say Hess was trapped in her car for an hour. She was pronounced dead after being taken to a hospital. Rowell was not injured.
