CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia American Water is providing $10,000 in grants to 15 fire departments statewide for training and equipment purchases.

The company announced the grants Monday.

The departments were selected from among 46 applicants in communities across the company’s service area.

The departments that will receive grants are in Cabell, Fayette, Kanawha, Lewis, Mercer, Putnam and Webster counties.

The grants cover a variety of fire department expenses involving protective gear, communications and water handling equipment, firefighting tools, training and related activities to support community fire protection.
