HILO, Hawaii (AP) - Officials say two crewmembers of Norwegian Cruise Line’s Pride of America were seriously injured while working aboard the ship when it was docked in the port of Hilo.

Hawaii County Fire Department Battalion Chief Warren Sumida tells the Hawaii Tribune-Herald newspaper (https://bit.ly/1OO1Egk ) that the two men were being lowered over the side of the ship Tuesday when something gave way and they fell into the water.

A statement from the cruise line says the crewmembers were performing a routine check of the ship’s rescue boat. Spokeswoman Monica Soriano wouldn’t explain how they were injured.

The Coast Guard is investigating what happened. Norwegian says it is also investigating while cooperating with Coast Guard authorities.
