TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A man and a woman escaped serious injury after their SUV got swept away by fast-flowing storm runoff, overturned and began filling with water in Tucson.

Tucson Fire Department Capt. Barrett Baker said the vehicle was swept downstream Tuesday night after it drove into a wash flowing with runoff from a monsoon storm. He says firefighters responded to a call about people inside the flipped-over vehicle.

Baker said the 28-year-old man and 24-year-old woman inside the vehicle were able to get out and pull themselves to the side of the wash near Interstate 19. Their identities weren’t released.

The Fire Department says motorists should avoid driving through flooded washes.
