CASA GRANDE, Ariz. (AP) - An Arizona Department of Public Safety officer suffered minor injuries after scuffling with a motorist who was driving a stolen vehicle.

DPS officials say the incident occurred about 11 a.m. Wednesday on Interstate 10 in Casa Grande.

An officer stopped to check on a motorist whose car appeared to be stuck in the median.

But when the DPS officer tried to help, authorities say the man driving the car became agitated.

The officer called for backup but wound up scuffling with the motorist over the officer’s gun.

Authorities say the officer’s gun discharged in the scuffle but neither man was shot.

DPS officials say the suspect’s car turned out to be a stolen vehicle.

The name of the officer and the motorist weren’t immediately released.
