BARRE, Vt. (AP) - Former Gov. Jim Douglas has been named interim executive director of the Vermont Historical Society while a national search is conducted for a permanent one.

Douglas, a four-term governor who stepped down in 2011, will start his duties soon and will overlap for a time with Mark Hudson, who is leaving in the fall.

Douglas, of Middlebury, has been teaching at Middlebury College as Executive-in-Residence. He has written a memoir and has been serving on various boards and foundations.
