GOLDEN, Colo. (AP) - A man arrested in Golden and placed handcuffed in the back of a patrol car was rushed to the hospital where he later died.

The Denver Post reports (https://dpo.st/1SLZEpf ) that the 51-year-old man was arrested Tuesday on a parole violation. Once handcuffed he sat on a curb and spoke to officers. Within minutes of being placed into the patrol car he began sweating profusely and became unresponsive.

Police say they then called for an ambulance. The man was taken to St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood where he later died.

Officials say a preliminary investigation shows the man had a pre-existing medical condition. The investigation is ongoing.

The man’s name was not released pending notification of the family.
