JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran and Roger Wicker are welcoming the nomination of Richard Howorth of Oxford for a second term on Tennessee Valley Authority Board of Directors.

Howorth was first appointed to the TVA Board of Directors in 2011.

The senators, both R-Mississippi, say in a news release that President Barack Obama submitted Howorth’s name to the Senate on Monday.

With Senate confirmation, Howorth would serve a term expiring in May 2020.

Howorth served two terms as the Democratic mayor of Oxford. He is the founder and owner of Square Books.

The senators say the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, of which Wicker is a member, could take action on Howorth’s nomination as soon as September.
