KELSO, Wash. (AP) - Investigators believe several fires that broke out near a church in Kelso early Wednesday were intentionally set.

The Cowlitz County sheriff’s office says it is working with state and local officials to investigate. One fire behind the Seventh Day Adventist Church destroyed an outdoor theater used for Christmas and other events. No injuries were reported.

The fire happened at the same time as four other small fires in a wooded area that were extinguished quickly.

Sheriff’s spokesman Charlie Rosenzweig says investigators don’t believe someone was specifically targeting the church. Several fires have been reported on church property in recent weeks.

The fires caused more than $80,000 in damages.
