PRYOR, Okla. (AP) - Investigators in Pryor are investigating the death of a man who they say shot himself in the head steps away from the lobby of the police department.

Pryor Chief of Police Steven Lemmings says the 37-year-old man walked into the police department lobby at 9:37 a.m. Wednesday and told a dispatcher that someone needed to secure his weapon. Lemmings says the man then stepped out of the lobby and shot himself in the head.

The man was treated at the scene by authorities in Mayes County and was later flown to a hospital in Tulsa, where he was pronounced dead. Lemmings says the man’s identity will not be released until his family has been notified.

Lemmings say the shooting is under investigation but appears to have been an isolated incident.
