MARMADUKE, Ark. (AP) - An Arkansas railcar manufacturer says it will spend $10.5 million to expand its tank railcar facility in Marmaduke.

American Railcar Industries, Inc., expects to hire up to 75 new full-time employees at the northeastern Arkansas facility.

The expansion will allow ARI to retrofit tank railcars to meet stricter safety standards imposed on tank railcars in flammable service by the United States and Canada earlier this year.

ARI president and CEO Jeff Hollister says the investment will help diversify the business to meet current and anticipated demand for retrofits, tank certifications and railcar maintenance, while also providing flexibility for new tank railcar production.

The Marmaduke facility opened in 1999. ARI has operated a hopper railcar assembly factory in Paragould since 1995, the first major railcar assembly plant in their manufacturing network.
