SPARKS, Nev. (AP) - A woman in Sparks has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon after she allegedly battered her mother, threatened her with a butcher knife and barricaded herself in her mother’s home for more than an hour.

Sparks police say 31-year-old Makenna Crossier held a SWAT team at bay at the residence on Prospect Avenue late Tuesday afternoon before officers twice fired tear gas into the home and arrested her.

Crossier also has been charged with domestic battery, burglary, property damage and obstructing an officer with a weapon.
