FARGO, N.D. (AP) - Police say a man who fled a traffic stop in Fargo was responsible for a bogus 911 call about a shooting as he tried to throw police off his trail.

Sgt. Chris Helmick tells KFGO radio (https://bit.ly/1JuKrbH ) that the suspect was stopped for speeding Tuesday night and fled on foot. They say a 911 call reporting a shooting at a liquor store that never happened was later traced to the man’s cellphone.

Formal charges are pending against the 21-year old Minneapolis man who was arrested on charges of fleeing police and possessing a stolen vehicle. Authorities say the car he was driving had been stolen in Wisconsin.
