BOULDER, Colo. (AP) - Boulder police say a University of Colorado student suspected of attacking residents with a knife confronted officers with a hammer before being killed.

Twenty-two-year-old Samuel Forgy was shot by officers Monday night at an apartment building after they say he climbed up on the railing of a stairwell as they were approaching. They thought he might be planning to jump on them.

One officer unsuccessfully deployed a Taser on Forgy and then the second officer opened fire.

Forgy was naked and believed to be high on LSD at the time.

A 23-year-old man was found with multiple knife-related injuries and a bite mark on his hand.

The officer who shot Forgy will be on paid leave while the Boulder County District Attorney’s Office completes its review of the shooting.
