NATCHEZ, Miss. (AP) - The Natchez Board of Alderman has hired city fire marshal Aaron Wesley as the new fire chief.

The 54-year-old Wesley has been with the Natchez Fire Department for 33 years.

The Natchez Democrat reports (https://bit.ly/1VNesIA ) Wesley, who is also a battalion chief, was one of six candidates interviewed for the fire chief position by the mayor and board of aldermen.

Natchez Mayor Butch Brown says it was Wesley’s ideas on how to improve the department that prompted the board to appoint him.

Wesley says he will raise money for a training facility and build a stronger relationship with Adams County.

He says there is also a new to construct new fire stations.
