RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - The Carolina Hurricanes have hired veteran coach Mark Morris to coach their AHL affiliate in Charlotte.

The team announced Morris’ hiring Friday.

The 57-year-old Morris was an assistant with the Florida Panthers last season. Before that, he spent eight years as the head coach of Manchester in the AHL - going 338-224-66 with what at the time was the Los Angeles Kings’ top minor-league team.

He also coached at Clarkson University, going 306-156-42 in 14 seasons.

He replaces Jeff Daniels, whose contract was not renewed by Carolina.

The Hurricanes also re-signed Geordie Kinnear as an assistant coach in Charlotte.
