GROTON, Conn. (AP) - The Navy base in Groton is marking Independence Day with a 21-gun salute.

The saluting battery at the Naval Submarine Base will fire single-round volleys at 30-second intervals beginning at noon on Saturday.

The guns are located on a base weapons compound and the event is not open to the public.

The base in Groton is the primary homeport for Navy attack submarines on the East Coast. It is among military installations across the country marking the Fourth of July.
