ROSWELL, N.M. (AP) - The Roswell airport has received a federal grant that will help boost planned renovations.
The Carlsbad Current-Argus reports (https://bit.ly/1dDk31K) that the Roswell International Air Center has been awarded $9 million by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
The funds will go toward the third phase of a four-phase project to bolster 5,000 feet of runway.
U.S. Senators Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich announced the grant earlier in the week in a news release.
Both senators say improving local airports is critical to strengthening economic development and travel.
The airport received a $450,000 grant last October to begin flight service to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
