NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a body has been found floating in the Passaic River in northern New Jersey.

But it’s not clear how the body ended up there or how long it may have been in the waterway.

State police say the body was recovered around 6:30 a.m. Saturday. But a spokeswoman declined to provide further information about the victim or the investigation.

Staffers from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office were also at the scene on Saturday. But an office spokesman declined comment and referred calls to the state police.
