PRINEVILLE, Ore. (AP) - Authorities in Crook County say a 14-year-old teen boy was killed while cutting firewood.

The Crook County Sheriff’s Office says a family member cut a tree that fell on the boy. The accident occurred at about 8 a.m. on Saturday, on Forest Road 27, about 20 miles northeast of Prineville.

The teen lives in Madras; his name has not been released.

Investigators say the boy was transported in a family car to Jefferson County, where county fire officials tried to save his life. He died of his injuries.
