NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Authorities say a 9-year-old girl was struck by a bullet in downtown Nashville, Tennessee, while waiting for a fireworks show to begin.

According to The Tennessean (https://tnne.ws/1NIUV6R), police say Ella Smith was with her family Saturday night when she felt a pain in her back. She was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center and treated for a small caliber wound. The injury was not critical.

Officials say it’s possible the bullet came from a weapon randomly fired into the sky.

The case remains under investigation.
