AZUSA, Calif. (AP) - Los Angeles County coroner’s officials have identified a young boy and girl who died when the SUV they were in careened off the side of a Southern California mountain road and plunged 40 feet.

Coroner’s Lt. Larry Dietz says 12-year-old Andrea Caliz Martinez and 8-year-old Christopher Caliz Martinez were killed when the vehicle went over an embankment Saturday evening in the hills above Azusa.

A man and woman, both 32, and a 13-year-old girl were found alive outside the car. All three were hospitalized.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Azusa police Lt. Sam Fleming tells the Los Angeles Times (https://lat.ms/1UrJlBM ) that speed was possibly a factor and alcohol may have played a role in the accident.
