LUCEDALE, Miss. (AP) - George County has reopened the old Bexley school house and community center following an interior restoration project.

The white framed school house, which is made up of two classrooms and a small auditorium, is one of the oldest public buildings in the county.

It was opened in 1914 and served as a school house for multiple grades until 1957.

The Mississippi Press reports (https://bit.ly/1JJ71yf) the George County Board of Supervisors maintains the historic building.

The school house’s signature chalkboards and wooden floors were restored, and crews also installed new overhead lighting, ceiling fans, and electrical wiring.
