CONWAY, S.C. (AP) - Horry County officials say a Conway man has drowned in the Waccamaw River

Deputy Coroner Darris Fowler told local media outlets that 48-year-old William Tompkins Sr. was pulled from the river shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday.

Tompkins had been reported as a missing swimmer shortly after noon Sunday.

County spokesman Brian VanAernem said fire and rescue crews and the Department of Natural Resources had divers searching the water before Tompkins’ body was found.

The Department of Natural Resources is investigating.
