AVON, Conn. (AP) - A man has been taken into custody in Massachusetts and charged in the sexual assault of a woman who was attacked last month while running on a trail in Connecticut.

Police in Avon, Connecticut, say the suspect, 29-year-old Luis Ortiz, was in custody in Chicopee, Massachusetts.

Police say Ortiz was tied to the crime by DNA evidence and he is charged with kidnapping and assault. The Associated Press could not immediately determine whether Ortiz has legal representation.

The victim, a woman in her early 30s, reported that she was running on the Rails to Trails path in Avon around noon on June 25 when a man grabbed her from behind, dragged her off the path and sexually assaulted her.
