NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) - A man who allegedly stabbed another man at a central New Jersey restaurant is now facing murder charges.

Middlesex County prosecutors say 32-year-old Edgar Martinez, of New Brunswick, also faces two weapons charges in the stabbing of 20-year-old Jovanni Garcia-Elvira. Bail was set at $2 million for Martinez, and it wasn’t known Monday if he has retained an attorney.

Prosecutors say the two men were arguing in a New Brunswick restaurant when the stabbing occurred around 4 a.m. Saturday. Garcia-Elvira was taken to a hospital, where he died a short time later.

Martinez was captured on a nearby street shortly after the stabbing occurred. Authorities have not said what the men were arguing about.

An autopsy determined that Garcia-Elvira died from multiple stab wounds.
