OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Oklahoma City police say an officer has fatally shot a man who threatened him with a handgun.

Sgt. Gary Knight says the suspect was killed around 2 a.m. Monday following a search through a residential area. A homeowner had reported a burglary to police and the officer found the suspect in another person’s backyard.

Knight says the suspect pointed the pistol at the officer before the officer shot the suspect, who died at the scene. He was later identified as 20-year-old Tyler Rogers. No other injuries were reported.

The officer, identified as 16-year veteran Sgt. Jeff Lunow, has been placed on routine administrative leave.

It was the second Oklahoma City police shooting since Saturday, when officers killed a man they say pointed a gun at them and a police helicopter.
