DAYTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - State police have identified a 26-year-old man who drowned while kayaking on a lake in western Michigan.

A statement from the state police post in Hart says troopers got a call about 3:20 a.m. Sunday saying that the man was kayaking with a friend on Martin Lake when both kayaks capsized. The post says the man couldn’t swim and his friend couldn’t bring him to shore.

The lake is in Newaygo County’s Dayton Township, about 25 miles northeast of Muskegon.

The Muskegon Chronicle says state police identified the dead man Monday as William E. Seitz of Muskegon.

State police say troopers and two members of the Newaygo County sheriff’s dive team were able to recover the body.

State police say alcohol “appears to be a factor” in the death.
