SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - The South Dakota Highway Patrol is offering a $3,000 bonus to current certified law enforcement officers who choose to become troopers.

The Highway Patrol is in the process of adding troopers to its force and is hoping the bonus attracts current officers from in and outside South Dakota.

Those who aren’t law enforcement officers, but would like to join the High Patrol must score 70 percent or higher on the new South Dakota Law Enforcement written test that was introduced in May 2012.

All interested applicants also must pass a physical test, which depending on the applicant’s age requires the minimum completion of between 15 and 35 sit-ups in a minute, 11 to 20 consecutive push-ups, jumping and running.

The deadline to apply for the job is Aug. 14.
