CLEVELAND (AP) - Police say the uncle of two children who were critically injured after being shot Saturday at a home in Cleveland has been charged with obstructing official business.

Thirty-year-old Lindsey Curry made an appearance in a Cleveland courtroom Monday. A police spokesman says Curry was charged because he was evasive in answering questions about how his 9-year-old niece and 2-year-old nephew were shot. No attorney information was available for Curry.

The spokesman says that the children’s mother told police she saw Curry asleep in the same bedroom as the children, and that she was awakened by what sounded like fireworks. Police have not determined how the children were shot.

Cleveland experienced a violent July 4 long weekend with 12 people wounded by gunfire, including five children.
