BELL GARDENS, Calif. (AP) - A sheriff’s SWAT team has arrested a man who holed up in his Los Angeles County residence for several hours after officers tried to serve an attempted-murder warrant.

The standoff began around 4 a.m. Monday when police arrived at the Bell Gardens home of Jose Navarro Jr.

About three hours later a small child was seen leaving and was escorted away by officers.

A SWAT team surrounded the home and at 9:30 a.m. fired tear gas inside. Officers took the 31-year-old into custody with the assistance of a police dog.

Sgt. Dennis Timmons says Navarro was wanted in connection with a shooting last Wednesday that left two people wounded.

City News Service reports Navarro was treated for dog bites. It wasn’t immediately known if he has a lawyer.
