SANTA ROSA, Calif. (AP) - The body of a 14-year-old boy has been found two days after he fell off an inner tube and disappeared in the water of Lake Sonoma.

The Sonoma County Sheriff’s office said Monday that divers located Marquette Gross’s body Monday afternoon.

The Santa Rosa Press Democrat reports (https://bit.ly/1fiORqp ) Gross and a younger boy slid off inflatable water toys on which they were being towed across a deep lake channel on the Fourth of July.

Neither was wearing a life jacket. The survivor later told authorities that Gross, who didn’t know how to swim, clung to his neck before the pair separate in the water. He managed to get to shore but Gross slipped under the water and disappeared.

Gross was from San Francisco and attended Visitacion Valley Middle School.
