SALEM, Ore. (AP) - The pilot killed in a single-fatality light plane crash at a Salem, Oregon, airport has been identified as a 60-year-old Salem businessman.

Police on Monday identified the victim in Saturday’s crash at McNary Field as John Douglas Layton.

Lt. Dave Okada says Layton was flying a single-engine Mooney M20P when it crashed north of the runway and burst into flames. He was alone in the plane.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the crash.
