KINGSTON, Jamaica (AP) - A five-day movie festival has begun in Jamaica with the goal of strengthening the island’s small filmmaking community.

Producers, actors and writers will share their craft with audiences at the inaugural Jamaica Film Festival. The event with screenings, workshops and networking is hosted by the Caribbean country’s promotions corporation.

There will be roughly 40 films shown in five venues across the capital of Kingston, including music documentary “The Legends of Ska” and a Jamaican feature about the city’s mean streets called “Kingston Paradise.”

Workshops with question-and-answer sessions will focus on topics like the business of filmmaking, marketing and the art of scriptwriting and casting.

The festival opened Tuesday and continues through Saturday.
