BOSTON (AP) - Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey is calling on the website Backpage to shut down its “adult” section.

Healey said the website and the Internet have become increasingly popular vehicles for commercial sexual exploitation.

Healey said most of the human trafficking cases her office has prosecuted involve advertisements on Backpage. She said the website must do more to end the kind of exploitation Healey said is advertised every day on its site.

Healey’s comments come a day after two Massachusetts men pleaded not guilty in the shooting death of a 34-year-old female escort from New York City who prosecutors say was killed during a robbery attempt.

Lawyers for the website have said in the past that the company does more than any other online classified site to prevent the trafficking of minors.
