PORT RICHEY, Fla. (AP) - A neighborhood argument over cats and a bird led to Florida sheriff’s deputies shooting a man after he allegedly threatened a woman with a rifle.

Pasco County sheriff’s deputies say 56-year-old Frank Rogers had an ongoing argument about her cats, which he said posed a threat to his bird, “Minnie.”

Deputies say Rogers went to the woman’s house Monday evening armed with a rifle and forced his way inside. She was able to escape.

Deputies soon arrived and say they ordered Rogers to drop his weapon but he threatened to shoot them. They opened fire, hitting him numerous times. Sheriff’s spokesman Eddie Daniels says he was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover.

Daniels says Rogers could face numerous charges.
