RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A former billing specialist for a women’s health practice in Virginia has been charged with stealing more than $800,000 from the business.

Chesterfield police Lt. Steve Grohowski says 51-year-old Edith W. Harris of Richmond was arrested last week on 11 counts of felony embezzlement.

Media outlets report the thefts occurred from Virginia Physicians for Women, a gynecological and obstetrics practice in Midlothian.

Grohowski says Harris was responsible for reimbursing patient accounts that had overpaid for services and she allegedly diverted that money to herself.

Harris has been released from the Chesterfield County Jail on $50,000 bond. It’s wasn’t immediately known whether she has an attorney.
