PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Lieutenant governors and secretaries of state from across the country are heading to Maine this week for their annual summer conference.

The National Association of Secretaries of State conference, hosted by Maine Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap, begins Thursday. The four-day event will be held in Portland.

Dunlap’s office says that lieutenant governors and secretaries of state from 34 states are planning to attend.

Officials will discuss programs and policies regarding elections, business services and international relations, among other things.

On Friday, George Mitchell, a former U.S. senator and special envoy for Middle East Peace, will speak during a luncheon. On Saturday, the group will hear from retired U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Travis Mills, who started a nonprofit to help wounded military veterans.
