GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) - A man who shot and killed his wife in Fruita before turning the gun on himself has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.

The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel reports (https://goo.gl/NGIl2K ) 47-year-old Steven Spiess was sentenced Monday for the Jan. 11 death of 30-year-old Danya Spiess at the couple’s home.

Prosecutors say Steven Spiess shot his wife at close range with a shotgun during an alcohol-fueled argument over money. He then shot himself in the face, destroying much of his lower jaw.

Danya Spiess called 911 that day and police arrived to find her dead. An arrest affidavit released by police says she called to say she was nervous because her husband was drunk and walking around the house with a gun.
