RUTLAND, Vt. (AP) - The mayor in Rutland, Vermont, has proposed bringing in an outside consultant to analyze the pay rates of city department heads.

The Rutland Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1fjNyaH ) the Board of Aldermen unanimously approved Rutland Mayor Christopher Louras’s proposal on Monday.

The study would compare what Rutland pays its department heads to the salaries for similar positions in other cities.

Louras says he does not believe such a study has ever been done and that it would generate objective numbers for the city to put into the budget process.

He put in a cost of living increase for all city department heads in the current year’s budget.

Louras says he is hoping to have the study done in time for the board to vote on department head salaries on Oct. 19.
