GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) - The Mesa County District Attorney’s Office will not file charges against a bus driver who hit and killed a 3-year-old boy as he crossed the street with his mother in Grand Junction.

KKCO-TV reports (https://goo.gl/89V3YU ) prosecutors say they do not believe a jury would find that the Grand Valley Transit driver was acting carelessly when the bus hit Virgil Stansberry and his mother on May 19.

The two were crossing the street in or near a crosswalk when they were hit. The boy was taken to a nearby hospital and later flown to a Denver-area hospital, where he died.

His death has been ruled an accident. Mesa County contracts with Dallas-based MV Transportation to run bus services.
