ROSEVILLE, Mich. (AP) - Police say a suburban Detroit transit system bus struck and critically injured a 35-year-old man when he stepped into its path.

Roseville police Chief James P. Berlin says the crash happened about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Berlin says in a statement that the man “stepped off the curb directly into the path of the bus.”

The chief says the pedestrian was in “extremely critical condition” at a hospital.

Berlin says it appears the driver of the SMART bus was not at fault in the crash.
