PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island officials are looking for a marketing firm that can create a $5 million tourism and branding campaign.

Commerce Secretary Stefan Pryor tells The Providence Journal (https://bit.ly/1JLyVJR ) that the state expects to issue a request for proposal Tuesday seeking one or several businesses to take on the project.

He said he expects to find a team that can compete “with the best in the country” and produce a top quality campaign that will reach not just the Northeast and New England, but also the United States.

Much of the state’s tourism spending is from state hotel-tax revenue. A portion of taxes collected in eight tourism districts has gone toward regional efforts in the districts.

The state’s commerce agency expects to post its request for proposal online Tuesday at www.commerceri.com and www.purchasing.ri.gov.
