CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) - The athletics director at Southeast Missouri State is headed to the University of Memphis.

Mark Alnutt says he’ll step down on July 31 from his position at the school in Cape Girardeau to become deputy athletics director at Memphis.

Alnutt had held the post at Southeast Missouri State since May 2012.

Alnutt says he’s enjoyed his time at that school, and that the athletics there are on an upward trajectory.

Memphis’ athletics director, Tom Bowen, says Alnutt was hired after a comprehensive national search. Bowen calls him “one of the best young athletics directors in Division I.”

Brady Barke has served as Southeast Missouri State’s senior associate to the president and will fill in for Alnutt on an interim basis.
