ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) - Two 17-year-old boys who spent the night in Angeles National Forest after failing to return from a day hike have been found safe.

Los Angeles County sheriff’s Sgt. Cynthia Gonzales says one of the boys’ father hiked into Devils Canyon to look for the teens and found them early Tuesday.

The trio waited for a sheriff’s rescue team, who made contact with them at around 5:30 a.m. The boys were unhurt.

The boys were reported missing Monday night. They planned to hike to a waterfall in the San Gabriel Wilderness area but didn’t make it out before nightfall.

Temperatures in the area dipped into the 50s overnight.

One teen’s car was found parked at the Devil’s Canyon trailhead, about 25 miles from La Canada-Flintridge.
