ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - A 44-year-old upstate New York man has been found guilty of stealing a home.

Michael O’Brien of Watervliet was convicted in Albany County Court of second-degree grand larceny and fourth-degree conspiracy.

Authorities say O’Brien, his mother, and another woman transferred ownership of a house in Cohoes last summer from an elderly woman who did not have the mental capacity to make the transaction.

Prosecutors said the two women, who worked as home health aides for the victim, used that relationship to manipulate her into transferring the home she had owned for 30 years to them.

O’Brien falsely posed as the grandson of the victim, transferred the house’s deed to his co-conspirators, and then tried unsuccessfully to sell the property. He’s to be sentenced in August.
