BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - The University of Vermont Foundation says it has set a fundraising record, collecting more than $60 million in commitments in the fiscal year that ended June 30.

The $60.5 million raised is a nearly 10 percent jump over the previous mark of $55.2 million the foundation reaped last year.

Commitments from more than 23,000 donors included new gifts, pledges, and bequests, 12 of which were worth more than $1 million.

Of the new commitments, $35.3 million was for support of academic and other programs, $14 million was for student scholarships, $6.7 million for facilities and $4.3 million for endowed chairs and professorships.
