PHOENIX (AP) - Arizona Department of Public Safety officials say a motorcycle driver has been arrested in connection with the death of his passenger in Mesa last weekend.

DPS announced Wednesday that its major crimes detectives took 26-year-old Ryan Dillon into custody on suspicion of second-degree murder.

They say Dillon’s passenger - 27-year-old Maggie Ruiz of Gilbert - died in the July 4 accident on U.S. 60.

Investigators say Ruiz fell off the motorcycle and was run over by a car, whose driver left the scene and still is at large.

Dillon is being held at the Maricopa County Jail and it’s unclear if he has a lawyer yet.
