LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality is accepting applications for its 2015 round of electronic waste grants.

The deadline for filing grant applications is Sept. 1, and ADEQ anticipates announcing the grant recipients by the end of the year.

The agency says it expects about $200,000 in grant funds to be available this year. In 2014, the ADEQ awarded grants totaling $200,000 to three recipients.

The e-waste grants program provides funding to eligible entities to assist in the proper recycling or disposal of electronic wastes in Arkansas. Private industries, schools, colleges and universities, cities and counties, Regional Solid Waste Management Districts, nonprofit organizations and state or local government agencies are eligible to apply.

The program is funded through the sales of surplus used computers and other equipment from state agencies.
