FAYETTE, N.Y. (AP) - The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office says a barn fire in the Town of Fayette has killed 83 cattle and injured two firefighters.

The local fire department was assisted by all 11 fire companies in Seneca County as it battled the blaze late Tuesday night. Officials say the barn owned by 26-year-old Larry Hurst was destroyed along with livestock, equipment and hay, with losses estimated at more than $1 million.

One firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion and smoke inhalation and another for a minor neck injury.

The cause of the fire is under investigation but officials say it doesn’t appear to be suspicious.
